I started noticing the variety of life on the property - each tidal pool hosting its own unique world, so many different plants and animals, shifts in the smells as the tides change. It reset my senses, inspired me, and allowed me to approach my work in a new way. ”

Surf Point provides time, space and support for members of the visual arts community to think, connect and create.
Program
In keeping with the vision of our founders, arts patron Mary-Leigh Smart and artist Beverly Hallam, Surf Point offers nominated artists and art professionals three-week live-work residencies in a boldly Modernist home on the coast of York, Maine.

Founded in the conviction that the visual arts - and its practitioners - are essential to human experience, Surf Point fosters a diverse and inclusive community where members from all backgrounds can thrive.

In Good Company
Surf Point is proud to be a member of the Artist Communities Alliance, York Chamber of Commerce, and associated with the Aspen Institute Artist-Endowed Foundations Initiative | AEFI.
SP’s 47-acre property is governed by a conservation easement managed by the York Land Trust. The oceanfront is rocky and the ocean movement can be very dramatic. The land is forest and marshland, some of it abutting the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.
